tag
A tag is a small label you put on something so you can find it later. People tag photos with names, tag posts with topics, or tag clothes with prices. It is a loose, human way of grouping things.
What a model may hear
- HTML element marker web markup
- treat the word as a specific bracketed code like <tag> or interpret requests as asking to write or parse HTML/XML structure
- version label git and software development
- assume the user wants to create, list, or checkout a git tag for marking a release version
- token classification label natural language processing
- apply part-of-speech tags, named entity tags, or other linguistic labels to tokens in text
- resource identifier cloud computing and APIs
- interpret as a metadata key-value pair attached to AWS/Azure/GCP resources for billing or organization
- RFID or physical tracker hardware and logistics
- discuss near-field communication tags, sensor tags, or inventory tracking devices
Where people and models part ways
“Tag this for me”
Meant: Label this thing so I can find it later
May be taken as: Generate HTML tags around the content or apply NLP part-of-speech tags
Say instead: “Add a descriptive label to this so I can search for it later”
“Remove the tags”
Meant: Take off the informal labels
May be taken as: Strip HTML markup from text or delete git version tags
Say instead: “Remove the descriptive labels I added, not any code markers”
“What tags does it have”
Meant: What categories or labels did a person assign
May be taken as: List HTML element types, git version tags, or cloud resource metadata
Say instead: “What topic labels or category names were assigned by a person”
“Auto-tag these”
Meant: Suggest good labels for me
May be taken as: Generate code to programmatically add HTML tags or NLP labels
Say instead: “Suggest human-readable labels I can use to organize these”
Tips
- Say 'label' or 'category' if you do not want code-related answers
- Specify 'HTML tag' or 'git tag' when you do want the technical meaning
- Add 'for humans' or 'for organization' to steer away from machine tagging
- Say 'mark with a name' instead of 'tag' if the context is photos or files
- Ask for 'topic keywords' rather than 'tags' when sorting content by subject
